The School of Computer Science and Software Engineering (SCSSE) was founded in September 2015 by merging the former Software Engineering Institute and the former Department of Computer Science and Technology of Information School. It was one of the first 35 national demonstrative software schools and also the only one approved among the normal universities nationwide. Professor He Jifeng, an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, is the current dean of the school.
In accordance with student-centered, market-oriented strategy and innovation-driven development, the school adheres to the way of internationalized education, market-oriented operation and integration of industry, education and research and cultivates high-level, practical, interdisciplinary and international software talents.
SCSSE has five departments (Software Science and Technology, Data Science and Engineering, Embedded Software and System, Cryptography and Network Security, Computer Science and Technology) and a Computing Center. And it has discipline bases such as Shanghai Key Laboratory of Trustworthy Computing, National Engineering Research Center for Trustworthy Embedded Software (under construction), MOE Engineering Research Center of software and hardware co-design and Application, MOE International Joint Lab of Trustworthy Software (under construction), and Shanghai Trustworthy Internet of Things Software Collaborative Innovation Center, as well as research bases including Institute of Data Science and Engineering and Research Center for Cryptography and Security. In addition, approved by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, National Software Talent Training Base (Shanghai) and National Talents Training Base for Software Outsourcing to Japan were also settled in SCSSE.
SCSSE has been developing rapidly in recent years. There are more than 200 faculties in SCSSE, including one academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, one tenured professor, 36 full professors, 71 associate professors and other scholars. Moreover, one faculty member has been selected as China’s Prestigious Distinguished professor of Cheung Kong Scholars, 3 faculty members were granted the China National Funds for Distinguished Young Scientists, 2 faculty members were selected as Recruitment Program of Global Experts, and one faculty member was awarded Excellent Academic Leader of Shanghai. The school also has over 10 adjunct professors from famous universities at home and abroad and an innovative research group set up by the National Natural Science Foundation. SCSSE has a current enrollment of around 2000 full-time students, among which there are over 1200 undergraduates, about 500 graduates and more than 120 doctoral students.
SCSSE has presided over and participated in over 100 research projects, including projects supported by the National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), the National High Technology Research and Development Program (863 Program), the National Natural Science Foundation and other key projects. Focusing on the application of safety-critical autonomous and controllable software system, the school will meet the major application requirements of the software field in China and provide information services for industries and enterprises.
